Book Review: Forever Kinda Love by Clara Stone

ForeverKindofLove_ebooksmGenre: Young Adult, Mature Young Adult, Contemporary Romance

Life’s. Little. Surprises.

The last thing seven-year-old Carrigan “Ace” Casper foresaw was an eight-year-old Heath Lovelly walking into her life the day her mother died. From that moment on, Heath sticks by her side, slowly becoming her strength, her confidant, and her entire world. What she doesn’t know is, she’s his saving grace, too.

Ten years later, Ace is handed another crippling challenge that threatens everything in her almost perfect life. Only, this time, she doesn’t turn to Heath, hiding the truth instead. But Heath knows Ace too well and won’t back down easily. He’s ready to do whatever it takes and will stay by her side until she accepts that their love is the kinda love worth fighting for.

Will he be her forever triumph or her unexpected downfall?

Two lives.

One story.

And an unexpected journey to falling in love.

MyReviewBadge

I’m going to attempt to write this review in a way that doesn’t sound gushy, gushy, love! Seriously, though, I absolutely loved this read. It’s a definite favourite read of 2015! This was an absolutely delightful story about best friends who discover love really is all there is. Well done to Clara Stone, for writing an extremely fluid, well executed story line. The characters were beautiful and the author created a world that made me want to sit, read and not stop, until I was done (which is exactly what I did do!).

Carrigan and Heath (AKA Ace and Iceman) have been best friends since a tragedy struck Ace at aged 7. Iceman becomes her pillar of strength. The reliability of these two on each other was gorgeous and I smiled a lot whilst reading. Their banter was fun, natural, and you know they are just so perfect for each other. Whilst the nicknames are never actually spoken about, I am left wondering if it’s a Top Gun reference?!?! Regardless, the author has a natural ability to bring a story together, and for that, I highly recommend you add this to your reading list as soon as possible! (In fact, don’t just add it, make sure you read it, too!) This is a great YA read for anyone 13 and up. Forever Kinda Love is a wonderful coming of age story that will leave you believing that love conquers all.

Book Review: The Blue Room (Vol. 1) by Kailin Gow

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Suspense

Would you sell your soul or body to find out the truth?

When Danny Blue of the Never Knights inherited his playboy billionaire father’s businesses and legacy, he didn’t realized his father’s pet project was the Blue Room, the most elite and secret club in the highest circle. He was happy to let his half-brother Terrence Blue run the club, but with Terrence’s womanizing ways and carefree attitude when it came to everything, he wasn’t sure if that was a good idea.

Terrence Blue wasn’t sure that was a good idea as well because it would cramp his style as a former patron of the club, but when he spotted virginal Staci Atussi starting at The Blue Room, he had a change of heart. Not only was Staci Atussi a knockout without knowing it, but she was the challenge he had been craving.

For Staci Atussi, working at The Blue Room was her solution to a desperate situation, but as she became integrated into the world of The Blue Room and the mysteries surrounding its patrons and the sexy Blues, she wondered if she had traded in her desperation for something far more sinister.

MyReviewBadge

I’m going to preface this review with saying I really think there is a greater audience for this book, and there are many people who will absolutely love it.

For me, I couldn’t really connect with the characters enough to really enjoy this book. I found Terrence a little annoying and not as Alpha as I would like him to be. Perhaps a little too mysterious?! I found his relationship with his half-brother to be bizarre and really hard to understand. Staci (the lead female character) was also confusing to me. I ‘got’ why she was doing what she was doing, but I found that she was too hard to understand and connect with. It’s a great preface of a story, I just couldn’t connect with any of it. Perhaps I wanted more?!? Either way, kudos to the author, because I know she has a lot of books published! I’m glad that I was able to read it and share it with others! Hopefully they’ll love it!

Book Review: On Solid Ground by Melissa Collins

Genre: Romance.  M/M Contemporary Romance

When Jacob “Dax” Daxton returns home from war, he has to fight a new battle – the one to find his place in the world. The man who normally has a clear path to victory surrounded by brothers in

combat is suddenly lost and alone. After meeting Beckett Ridge, a bearded tattoo artist, Dax’s journey begins winding down an unexpected path.

Still reeling from events that shook his foundation, Beck has never been part of anything meaningful. Now faced with responsibilities foreign and daunting, Dax’s broken spirit mends Beck in ways he never even knew he was destroyed.

As both struggle to find balance, they are healed by the comfort they find in one other. On the other side of chaos, they hope to find themselves On Solid Ground.

MyReviewBadge

I absolutely-thoroughly-enjoyed every page of this book. From the moment the book begins, Collins does a fantastic job of creating two main characters that are strong, yet flawed.  Dax and Beck are drawn together by a chance meeting, and from that moment you know these two are meant for each other.  The author does a great job of portraying these characters in an imperfect, tortured, yet beautiful manner. There are a few intimate scenes that were done with class, and conveyed the emotion Dax and Beck felt. In the end, this story is about one man’s journey through the horrors of war, and the tattooed stranger who becomes the solid rock in his life. There is lots of in between plot lines in the book that kept it a great, interesting read. I don’t want to go into them because they will spoil the read. The supporting characters were well portrayed and added another layer to the story.  I was really cheering for Dax and Beck and hoping they’d make it in the end, even through the shitty times. These boys deserve a happily ever after, especially after all they’ve been through, but will they get it!?! You’ll have to read and see!

IMG_20150217_142044

And now…. a gif-tastic addition to the review:

 Hot Tattooist: Check

A solider and his best friend: Check

A little girl who will bring them together and help them heal: Check

A love that can go the distance…..well, you’ll have to read it to see!

About the Author: Melissa Collins has always been a book worm. Studying Literature in college ensured that her nose was always stuck in a book. She followed her passion for reading to the most logical career choice: English teacher. Her hope was to share her passion for reading and the escapism of books to her students. Having spent more than a decade in front of a classroom, she can easily say that it’s been a dream.
Her passion for writing didn’t start until more recently. When she was home on maternity leave in early 2012, she read her first romance novel and her head filled with the passion, angst and laughter of the characters who she read about it. It wasn’t long before characters of her own took shape in her mind. Their lives took over Melissa’s brain and The Love Series was born.

MyReviewBadge

I read the first book in this series and absolutely loved it. It was set in Sydney, Australia and I was able to visualise locations and feel the atmosphere in those locations. *You can read my review HERE: This second book is a wonderful addition to the series. In this one we meet a career oriented Madeleine, (Maddy to her friends) who has no interest in love. It’s all business for her…. that is, until Paul comes along. In a meeting that is supposed to an innocent work commitment, lives collide to bring these two together in an undeniable attraction. And the denying is certainly Yoda strong in these two!!  I felt like they both really don’t think they deserve happiness and love, but you can see it through the pages they are so right for each other. Paul feels like he’s past his prime, and with two kids and a divorce, has made the choice that he’s not meant to be a family man… All things are not as they seem with Maddy…. a little bit of intrigue, heartache, and a surprise or two, this story a great contemporary read. This story is much more than a boardroom romance. It’s about love coming along when you least expect it.   IMG_20150217_142044

MyReviewBadge

This story definitely falls into the Young Adult category for me. I did find it a little difficult to get into the mind of the main characters, but it was because she was well written as a teen read (and for me, that was a long time ago!). The author does a good job of setting the scenes throughout and most certainly has a way of immersing such emotion into the story.

This story takes the reader through a timeline that spans a few years. The characters go through A LOT, and the story really does take the reader on that journey with them. It’s a story of heartbreak and loss, and the immeasurable feelings that come from that. At the same time, this story is about giving up one dream and creating another. Fighting back when you feel that all is lost, and living for what you believe in.

The chapters are in alternate points of view which was done in a way that helped the story travel. I really think this story will appeal to teen readers, as well as anyone who likes a teen/young adult contemporary story. I am certain I know of quite a few young readers who would love this book. The cover is intriguing and sets the tone for exactly what is to come.

Fun Questions:

1. What’s your favorite color? I feel most confident in red and it looks best with my coloring. This is also the color I associate with passion so I’m very drawn to it. My bedroom is a very deep red. I also love purple; ironically I rarely wear it though. 2. List 5 facts about yourself. I played bagpipes all through middle and high school I have 3 kids who are all musically and athletically talented. I married my high school sweetheart and we’re still going strong after 15 years. I love to travel. I’ve been to Canada, Mexico, Ireland, Scotland, England and France. I’m a terrible homemaker! I work full time plus write on the side so I’m not a true stay at home mom but I still really suck at cooking and cleaning. My husband is much better at taking care of the house than I am. 3. What do you like to do for fun? With three kids I rarely have time to consider my own idea of fun. When I do get out it’s for fondue at Melting Pot, music concerts, bowling and mini golf. I used to read incessantly but since I started writing I’ve found there is no time for reading too! Book Questions: 1. When did you start writing? Over the years I’ve written small things but never took it very serious. I met some Indie authors last year and learned so much about this DIY world. It was the first time I thought about writing for publishing. Knowing you don’t have to go through publishing companies and face rejections was eye opening for me. 2. Who are some of you favorite authors? What are some of your favorite books? Tessa Dare is by far my favorite and I love all of her books. I recently stumbled upon Barbara Devlin and have enjoyed her Brethren of the Coast series. My daughter is a huge fan of dystopian YA, I read everything she does so we can discuss them. For that genre I really enjoyed the Legend series by Marie Lu. 3. Who inspired you so start writing? Last year I was inspired to write a story for my hubby. He hates to read, I’ve tried buying him various genres but he never finished one. I decided to try writing a story I thought he could get through and maybe have it turn him on in the process. Amazingly he finished my story but sadly it didn’t inspire him to read anything else. 4. What genre’s do you like to read that most? Historical romance is my favorite genre; I am in awe of anyone that can write it.

Blog Tour & Review: Black Horse by Addison Kline

Title : BLACK HORSE
Author : Addison Kline
Genre : Romantic Suspense

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22064966-black-horse
“What would you do if the only man you ever loved was the son of the man that murdered your parents?”
In Addison Kline’s fiery romantic suspense novel, Averi Ford’s future collides with her past with ferocious intensity. Averi Ford and Colt McClain have loved each other since they were children. They both come from a broken past. Colt’s mother died when he was young, and Averi’s parents were taken from her at the tender age of five. The same man is responsible for both of their broken childhoods: Tom “Black Horse” McClain. He also happens to be Colt’s father. Now twenty years after the crimes that fractured both of their hearts, Black Horse is getting out of jail and he’s coming after the girl who testified against him: Averi, herself. Colt wants to hide her, but Averi refuses to run.
“Our past does not own us, and we owe it to our hearts to show the world that love can arise from the darkest of places. We just have to survive Black Horse to tell the tale.”

Addison Kline has written an action fueled romantic suspense book that will set you on the edge of your seat and have you wanting to know ‘what’s next’.The opening scenes will draw you in and is a definite page-turner. The relationships are well thought out and throughout the books you can tell that the author has set up the supporting characters to feature in future books. She has cleverly woven little snippets of background information without taking away from the main story.

Averi and Colt have a bond that is indescribable. It’s solid and real. I’m not sure how exactly Averi got away with the relationship for so long without her brothers actually kicking up more of a fuss, but that seems minor once we get into the grit of the story. I found this story to be about redemption, revenge, family, sticking together, and bonds that can never be broken. The middle of the book is a turn back in time that leads you through a series of events that seem like snapshots of a camera. They are short, sharp, but full of information that push you through the timeline. Cleverly done. There were a few twists and turns I didn’t see coming, for which I am greatful to the author for! Black Horse is one mean S.O.B, a sick twisted individual that doesn’t deserve to live. It’s up to every person who has ever been affected by him to stand together as a unit and take him down…. But can they do that without tearing themselves apart? You’ll have to read to find out!

Addison Kline is an award winning, best selling novelist who writes mystery, psychological thrillers and romantic suspense novels. She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, their sons and two rambunctious dogs. Addison has had a love affair with the written word since before she entered school. Excerpt 1

Flaming red hair was piled on top of her oval face. Her blue eyes stared at me intensely. My gaze fell to her pink, pouty lips. Her lower lip was slightly bigger than her top. My thoughts immediately took a turn into the gutter. I imagined all the ways I could tease those lips, tasting them, the way they would look wrapped around my dick. I kept going with my gaze. Her skin was a sweet cream color. A blue corset wrapped around her petite frame, and a pink tutu with pink and blue checkered socks encased her long legs. Then, the outfit finally ended with “fuck me” black heels. I never would have thought all that combined in one package would be sexy, but, damn, I was all about this cotton candy woman.

“I appreciate you stripping me down with your eyes here, but I have a celebration to get back to, so here, please.”

I looked back up at her face in confusion. Then I realized she was holding my phone out to me.

“I’m an asshole. Thanks,” I told her as I grabbed my phone from her delicate hand.

“Nice to meet you, asshole. I’m Candy Tease tonight. So maybe you aren’t normally an asshole.”

She smiled at me. I found myself wanting to play with her.

“Candy Tease. I can see where you get your name.”

And I wasn’t talking about her outfit. Although I was sure that was what she thought I was talking about. She looked sweet as hell, and I definitely wanted a taste. My dick was throbbing at the thought of just how sweet she was. The sweetest of honey.

Excerpt 2

“I don’t think you do. It’s actually a secret.” She winked at me.

That was all the warning I had before she gripped my shirt, pulling me toward her and crushing her lips to mine. She moaned against my lips. I groaned. After the initial shock hit me, I gave back to her as much as she was giving me. Her lips tasted sweet, with a flavor I couldn’t place. Those perfect lips parted, and I sure as hell took advantage of that, my tongue caressing hers.

Holy fuck, this woman was amazing!

She suddenly pulled back a bit so that our lips were barely touching. “Cotton candy-flavored lip gloss,” she whispered against me.

Then she did the strangest thing. She turned around and walked away.

What the hell?

I stood there stunned. I could still taste her. No fucking way was I going to let her walk away. She made a turn into a nightclub ahead. I started to follow her, then stopped and pulled out my phone. Those assholes were still being tracked, thank Christ. I pulled up Rex’s number and pressed call.

He answered on the first ring. “What happened?”

“I got mobbed by a group of bachelorettes and lost sight of the targets. Nice work on the tag, by the way.” I laughed remembering him stumbling like a fool.

“Yeah, well, it worked. I’ll keep tabs on our guys. It looks like they’re on the road, going south on 75. Talk to you tomorrow.”

Not much we could do now until they stopped.

“Sounds good.”

With that taken care of, I had some unfinished business to attend to. I walked like a man on a mission. I had one thought driving me. Cotton candy.

Excerpt 3

We gathered in a circle and started swaying with the beat.

I was having a great time, when Jules moaned, “Oh Lord, I would sell my soul for a piece of that.”

Curiosity coursed through me. I started to turn around to see what guy she was looking at, when hands gripped my waist, bringing me close to a warm, hard body.

I was two seconds away from blowing my shit, when a sexy voice whispered against my ear, “Did you think I would let your sweet fucking lips walk away without another taste? I don’t think so, Cotton Candy.”

I shivered at his words. Whoever this stranger was, I didn’t want him to let me go. His hands gripped me harder bringing me flush with his obvious hard-on.

“I can’t get the taste of your lips off mind. I wonder if you are sweet everywhere. I bet you are.”

He spoke as he ran his nose up the side of my neck. The feeling made me start panting.

Dear Lord, what was this man doing to me?

“Move for me, sweetness.”

My hips started moving of their own accord; my body wanted to please him. I heard a growl of satisfaction from him. My eyes closed, just giving into the feeling of this mysterious, sexy man. I twisted my hips against him, laying my head against his shoulder. My hands slowly crept up and joined his; our fingers entwined against my corset-clad waist.

“What am I going to do with you, sweetness?” he purred against me.

I wanted nothing more than to do dirty things with him. As long as he touched me and kept talking, I was a goner. His lips touched my neck, and I practically convulsed. A moan slipped through my lips. Then someone coughed.

Excerpt 4

I let go of the man’s hands and turned around to face him. Oh my God, he was so fine. His eyes were dark and flared with desire. He was looking at me like he wanted to take me right then and there on the dance floor. Desire pooled between my legs. If he propositioned me, I wasn’t sure I would say no.

I spoke first, trying to break the spell he held over me. “Um, I have to go.” I was just full of words.

“It would appear so, Andi.” He drew out my name as he spoke, as if he was savoring my name on his lips.

I shifted from one leg to the other. He slowly moved closer. He was like a predator, and I his prey.

“This isn’t the end, sweetness. I will find out the answer to my question.”

I raised my chin slightly, bringing our lips inches from each other. “What question is that?” I whispered.

He growled and kissed my lips with a fever I’d never experienced before him. I wanted to wrap myself around him, feel all the pleasure I knew he could bring.

He slowly eased back and spoke against me. “If you taste as sweet everywhere else.”

He smiled a half-mischievous smile. That same smile made me feel bold. I wanted to accept his challenge.

“You can find out, if you can find me.”

With that gauntlet thrown down, I left him staring at me fiercely as I walked away. I threw a little extra sway in my hips as I passed through the door.

First of all, apologies to the author for missing my blog tour time slot. Life is crazy, but when is it never not?!
As for my review:
Well this was unexpected! I went in reading this book having never read any of Jessica Florence’s previous novels. I was quite impressed with the ease of her writing. It was a pleasure to read. I really enjoy novels that are well written and allow me to cruise through it without getting overcomplicated, or over explaining things. The relationship between Ryder and Andi is a bit cute, if not marred with some tensions and distractions. There is a significant arc to the story that may have had me a little….frustrated However, I think it’s a sign of a solid author, when just a few words can cause the reader to have to pause and think some strong words that can’t be repeated! If it had been a physical book, instead of an e-book I probably would have closed the book for a bit before continuing on! It was an action packed, kismet style, sexy at times, quick read.

I highly recommend this one, (Non-spoiler alert, of course!) especially if you’re a fan of Ed Sheeran!!

Ahhh, this was a great in-between book. By that I mean it was a really good, quick read. It was full of enough action, drama, and oh my where-is-the-fan hot scenes!!! What I really liked about it was how the author played out her characters, without over analyzing or describing.

I was/am a huge Sons of Anarchy fan (what can I say, Charlie Hunnam….actually..say no more) so whenever I see a story come out that is Motorcycle Club themed I want to dive in, but I’m wary. There is a particular sensitivity that needs to happen. The world of MCs are a private one and can come across and particularly cliché, or unrealistic (in as much as you can be in made up fiction world). Millstead did a great job by keeping the “MC” aspect out of it, instead concentrating on the relationship development between the two main characters, Oak and Willa. Oak was menacing enough to still be lovable. Willa wasn’t a wallflower, although at times I was confused at her ability to ‘get over things quickly. The author pulls off the story by offering alternative POVs so the reader gets inside both main characters heads. This really helped with story flow, especially with the “undercover” aspect. I also appreciated that it is a stand-alone novel and without any ‘spoilers’ the characters get a HEA.
This is my first Kasey Millstead book, but I really liked the flow of her writing and her words so I’m sure I’ll be grabbing more!

Book Review: Outside the Ropes by Ashley Claudy

OTRcover60956-smallGenre: New Adult. Romance. Suspense. Action.

Regan Sommers spent her life fighting. Fighting foster parents, kids in the group home, and classmates. But the night she has to fight for her life changes everything.
Now, she’s fighting for money in the ring, and from the first punch she’s addicted. Every addiction has a price though, and this one is the gym’s star boxer, Gage Lawson. He may come in an enticing tattooed package, but his demands are more than she can handle.
OTR
The responding officer from that night, Anthony Fields, comes with no demands. He want’s whatever she’s willing to give, and Regan can handle that. She can definitely handle him.
But no help comes string free, and Regan’s not the only one with a hard past and scars to cover. The life she was trying to escape is nothing compared to the danger she’s in the middle of now, and she can’t fight her way out.

The author does a great job weaving multiple story lines through out this book, suspense and action included. There were a few angles that I wished had been resolved by the end, or had a little more depth put into them, but for the majority of the book I wasn’t worrying about that.

Regan’s character was likable, a strong female, who also has enough vulnerability that the reader can relate to her. In some of the ways she acted she showed she wasn’t the complete tough girl, which added depth to her character. The way shIMG_20150217_142044e craves attention didn’t make her less likable, in fact it shows that being damaged allows her to get through life the way she has.

At first I was confused by Gage, but at the same time intrigued and sucked into his demeanour and appeal. Throughout the story he remains a mystery, but at the same time you also feel like whatever his motivation is, it’s for the best. Who doesn’t love a hot boxer who knows goes all protective, but not in an aggressive and possessive way!?OTR4

I was hoping some of the loose ends would be tied together, but I compliment the author in giving the reader an experience that will have them hanging for the next installment. In the end, I really couldn’t put the book down and now I really can’t wait for the next book! *warning, there is a bit of a cliff hanger…..

Rating Reviews: Star Light – Star Bright – How Many Stars Will We Add?

Before now I haven’t given any of the books I’ve reviewed a star rating. I do so on Goodreads because it makes me, but I’ve always felt that it was saying a very clear message of read this ..or don’t, based on stars. I think writing what you didn’t like and what you did like really mean a lot more than stars. However….. it seems that stars are really important when it comes to all those awesome authors I get to read. So from now on, all reviews will be accompanied by a star rating. Below is a table of what the star ratings mean for this blog:

IMG_20150217_142319

1 star = Did Not Finish – Not For Me – You might like it so at least check it out
(I’m going to be honest and say I probably won’t share a lot of these – is there really a point in making an author who has put their heart and soul into something feel bad?! Nope!)

IMG_20150217_142258

2 star = I see the point of the book but I just didn’t like it. It didn’t connect with me. It was really hard to finish but I did. Check it  out at your own risk.
(again, not sure how many of these I’ll post, but that’s okay!)

IMG_20150217_141911

3 star = Was a good book. Interesting and engaging, although it was a book I could easily put down and come back to. I still liked it and would really like if you checked it out.

IMG_20150217_142044

4 star = I really loved this book. It captured me. It kept me interested and I really enjoyed being able to escape into this books world and characters.

IMG_20150217_142229

5 star = Whoa. What day is it? I spent all day ignoring the housework, and all night ignoring sleep just so I could finish this book. It was AMAZING and you should DEFINITELY check it out – IMMEDIATELY.

I’ll start this system with the next posted review … for now…

Happy Reading!
