Book Review x 2 CJ Duggan & Caitlyn O’Leary

In order to get more blog posts up and not get bogged down into the need for lengthy posts, I thought I would start some quick flash reviews. Hopefully they have enough in them to get you interested in clicking on the book and seeing if it’s something you’d like.

So, for 2018 – we are Day 1 and I’ve managed to finish 2 books! Hooray!

HDS.jpgA Cry for Help
It only takes one phone call, and Navy SEAL Drake Avery is rushing back to Tennessee in the middle of the night. His sisters are in danger, and he will do whatever it takes to protect them.

A New Twist
Now is not the time for a relationship, but damned if Drake doesn’t cross paths with a smokin’ hot kindergarten teacher named Karen Eastman. Miss Eastman has Drake thinking naughty thoughts when he needs to have his head in the game. He never thought he’d be hot for teacher.

Demons from the Past
Part of the hell of going home is that you know everyone and they know you. Just when you think you can trust someone, they can turn on a dime. Old and new enemies are thrilled to discover Drake has a beautiful new weakness—Karen. But messing with the women in his life is a mistake. You mess with the bull, you get the horns.

Rome wasn’t built in a day . . . but it’s only going to take one for Sammi’s world to crumble.

How did a self-orchestrated gap year turn into a less-than-enthralling lifestyle as a couch potato at her parents’ house? Determined to get motivated and join life again, Sammi Shorten books a budget Bellissimo Tour to Rome, the Eternal City. What she hadn’t signed up for was being stuck with an eclectic group of binge-drinking foreigners in a bed-bug-infested hostel from hell. Things in Rome really couldn’t get much worse . . . could they?

When plans go completely awry Sammi’s left with only one option, and it’s the one place she really doesn’t want to turn – to the man who might very well get her into the worst trouble of all: the gorgeous local tour guide, Marcello Bambozzi.

WHEN IN ROME is the fourth standalone book in CJ Duggan’s sassy, sexy new adult series, Heart of the City.

Her Dominant Seal by Caitlyn O’Leary – Author
Great suspense/action with a sprinkle of romance –no BDSM in sight   Definitely don’t miss this book. It was my first Caitlyn O’Leary book and I really enjoyed the flow of the words, and the easy chemistry between all of the characters. There was action, and suspense, and it was always moving forward. Grab this – it’s FREE!

When in Rome by CJ Duggan Author This was also a great, fast paced story of everything going wrong, but right! Another one with a light sprinkling of romance, reminded me of the time I explored Rome – except I didn’t get a hunky Italian! This was a super easy read and I knocked it out in a couple of hours! I really enjoyed the way the city was lightly interwoven into the storyline.

freeing jasper thunder

The moment Jasper heard Emily Jenkins’ sultry voice he was transfixed.

An instant and heated reaction that wound its way through his soul and warmed his skin. The inexplicable connection was broken as fast as it began. Emily has a son. Jasper doesn’t “do” kids.

When her life spirals out of control, will Jasper be able to let go of his tragic past and save Emily and her son? Or has the Special Forces Soldier found his weakness – a history he cannot let go of?

Emily Jenkins lost her husband on the battlefield and was left to pick up the pieces of her broken heart while finding a way to raise her son alone.

Jasper Walker is known for being the playboy of his team. Professionally, he is a tier one assassin – a trained killer. Personally, he blows through women giving them no more than a week in his bed as he privately struggles to move on from the woman that is forever lost to him.

When their lives collide, Jasper finds out he’s not the only one with secrets. There is more to the black-haired beauty Emily than a widowed single mother.

The 707 is an elite team of Army Commandos. A special Black Ops team known as the 707 research and development group. They have a two-person chain of command: their Commander and the President.

Meet the men of the 707: Lenox, Jasper, Levi, and Clark. Watch as they show us that sacrifice, commitment, and bravery are not just for the battlefield. Each man must fight to find and protect the women who are theirs.

Each book is a standalone, a look into the life of a Special Forces soldier’s life and the code they live and die by.

Happy Release Day!!

I went into this book blind. I had not read any other book in the series (the first one), and I had not read Riley Edwards before. I was pleasantly surprised with the package that was the book, Freeing Jasper. The story is a lot more than a love story. The author has done well in integrating the world of mystery, action and black ops. Jasper’s character is damaged from decisions he made early on in life, and he uses women as a bandaid. Enter – Emily. Someone he’s met before but refused to listen to his heart. He’s avoided her for months until she becomes a victim of a bank robbery. Jasper acts on instinct and Emily will soon becomesomeone who will slide into his heart and break it open. There was a lot more involved in the story, and I don’t want to give anything away. One of the things I enjoyed the most was it wasn’t all about the sex in this book. It was about the story. It was about breaking and freeing Jasper so he could be the person he was meant to be. Looking forward to reading more in the series, now I’ve gotten to know the secondary characters. Read this book if you like your romances with just a hint of heat, but a lot of action.

Stars Shine Bright …But My Reviews Don’t Need Them

Guuuiiiseee……..

….. I’ve changed my mind.

When I started this blog I started because I enjoyed reading all types of books, and felt like it was a great way for me to share with everyone what I was reading. It was also to support friends who had published books, or were on the journey to publish. For this reason I started with no star ratings. When I first posted reviews I would write a short 200-400 word paragraph on what I disliked and liked about the story. It was a refreshing way to review without the pressure of star ratings. I later asked on my Facebook page whether people preferred stars, words, or stars and words. Most said stars and words. I tried it. I truly tried it, but I just don’t think it’s working anymore. It was just far too hard to categorise my reads and

Star ratings really do affect everyone involved, reviewer, writer, reader. I’ve noticed a lot of weight is put on to the stars, but that star ratings are a really individual thing. What I feel is a three star rating (which for the record, I think is a really good rating!) may be a one star or a five star for someone else. For me, I don’t see much value in them.

Prompted by a recent blog post by Romance Novels by the Beach, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it, so I‘ve decided to stop the star ratings again. In my future reviews, I will share with you what I loved, what I might not have loved, and why I think you should read that book, or who the best audience for the book is.

My hopes are now I won’t be pressured to put a book in a ‘box’. Instead I can give my opinion and share with you a well-rounded review based on the writing, the storyline, and my level of enjoyment. So now.. I will go forth and write up all the July reviews that are waiting!!

P.S Speaking of reviews. Have you heard the Amazon controversy?! They aren’t letting you review if they ‘think’ you ‘know’ the person. Strange things are happening! Check out the controversial blog post that started it all by author Imy Santiago. Read it here –> An Open Tipsy Letter to Amazon It’s gaining traction over the world and will be interesting to see what happens.
