My flash review of this book when I finished reading it was “everything and more” I wanted in a sequel. A fab follow-up to the first book Mr. President .
In the newly released follow up to Mr. President, Matt has made it into the White House, but Charlotte has run off to Europe. Making it into the top spot in the country isn’t the same without the girl who got him there by his side. Matt asks her to join him, and what we have is CiC. I really loved the redemption and reunion in this book. How the two tangle together to tackle politics and romance. First and rxrp08kf8xnzi foremost, this is a romance book and I love the way the author has done it. There are no boring politics, and it even includes a little mystery and intrigue (after all, it IS Washington DC!!) I enjoyed reading the ongoing beautiful, blossoming relationship and adventure in the White House. This book is a definite summer smasher, meaning you can read it in one sitting. A great book to give you a little hope for the political future. If only Matt Hamilton REALLY WAS in the White House as “Mr President”!!  I really wanted this review to be more eloquent, but I just don’t know what to say, except – definitely read the book!! *insert smiley emoticon* 😀

Book Review: HEARTthrob by Belinda Williams

heartthrob

Hollywood Hearts Book (1)

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Women’s Fiction

CAN AN AVERAGE GIRL SURVIVE HOLLYWOOD?

Ally Valenti doesn’t belong in Hollywood. Not like her friend and actress, Lena Lyons. Lena’s convinced Ally to pursue her dreams of fashion design, starting with some gowns for the awards season.

Which Ally will get around to creating as soon as she can stop looking at Jacob Swan, Lena’s latest cdvuymsbcsxs9ao-star. Not that she’s staring. Ally’s skeptical of anything celebrity and it’s not like she’d be pathetic enough to fall for a Hollywood heartthrob.

Then Ally learns there’s more to Jacob than his good guy, all-American persona. She finds herself torn between the desire to get to know him better and her determination to stay out of the limelight.

Of course the media has other ideas—and someone doesn’t like all the attention Ally’s getting. When threats aimed at destroying her fashion career go too far, Ally’s convinced she’s living in crazy town.

The sensible thing would be to retreat home before it all ends in spectacular fashion. But will Ally be leaving more than her dreams behind if she says goodbye to Hollywood?

This glamorous, fast-paced contemporary romance that will make you smile, is perfect for fans of Rachel Gibson, Victoria Dahl, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and Liliana Hart.

SGMyReview

Belinda Williams has knocked it out of the park again with this contemporary romance book set in Hollywood, USA! Her latest series is a new step into the world of glitz and glamour, and I couldn’t be more excited to read it. One thing I really value in Belinda Williams as an author, is her ability to create a world that you feel a part of. You instantly feel connected to the characters, and are cheering for them on the side. I’ve got to say, there was a moment in this book that I thought we had reached an arc, and 3o6zt0im82qhmdmjrethem BAM, she throws me off my feet and we go in a completely different direction. It made the read exciting, and engaging. This book has loads of things for any fan of women’s fiction. It’s not all lovey dovey, but has some depth and had me flipping through the pages in one sitting.

Although this is a part of a series, you can read these books and not worry about the ending!! For that reason, I look forward to following this world Belinda Williams is creating, and you should too!

Can these two polar opposites find a way to make a relationship work? Will all that dating a rock star entails break them or bring them closer? Find out in the first book of the Velocity series.

SGMyReview

I wasn’t sure about this book, but I know it’s going to have some major fans out there!! This book is a rockstar book, without being about the rock band as such. Ash and Michelle meet under unlikely circumstances, and after some back and forth, they finally take the plunge to see what is there. Michelle isn’t used to attention from someone like Ash, and Ash isn’t used to someone wholesome like Michelle. The two of them navigate the new relationship throughout the book. If you are looking for some hot erotica and exploration then this is a good book to read. There’s a little drama weaved through, but I feel like that is being set up for next books. The real drama to the storyline comes towards the end and keeps the reader interested in the story and the relationship. This is a first in the series and does end abruptly, but I think it’s purposeful to keep the reader keen and ready for the next book! Like I said, grab this book for some steamy scenes about a dirty bass player in a rock band!

Book Review: As Wings Unfurl by Arthur M. Doweyko

aswingsunfurlcover (1).jpg

Genre: Science Fiction

Applegate Bogdanski returns from Vietnam with a missing leg, a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. A fair trade, he thinks, for a coward. He stumbles through each drug-besotted day working at an obscure Newark, New Jersey bookstore. Enter Angela, who claims to be his guardian angel. Neither one is an angel, but together, they uncover a conspiracy which threatens to undo humankind itself.
SGMyReview

It is blatantly obvious that the author of As Wings Unfurl knows his stuff. This story captured me straight away. The book is set in the past, but in a futuristic past. It might sound confusing but the author just-gets-it. The words are beautifully descriptive and you are carried into the world, the drama, and the action and suspense without a fault.

Apple is thrust into a secretive underworld of otherworldly creatures. He also may just hold the key to saving humanity and the world, with a little help from … his guardian angel??? There’s a lot at stake, and there’s some interesting ‘creatures’ in play.  I don’t want to give too much away, but the book is a great sci-fi read. For any fan of the genre I do urge you to pick up this book.  Also – how good is the cover?? I’ve definitely got cover love and story love for this book! I’m so glad I was able to grab this book as my dive back into the world of science fiction. Apart from watching it, I haven’t had many opportunities to read it. It takes a really special author to be able to pull of a believable world and characters like Doweyko has.

Author Interview:

Do you have any writing “rituals” like: first draft is handwritten with a purple pen or a certain stuffed (or real) animal rides shotgun next to them as they write.

No rituals. When the spirit moves me, I move.

Do you make a play list of music and only listen to that list while writing?

I enjoy playing the piano and creating new music … so listening to music is a huge distraction.

Do you have a favorite type of character to write?

Independent loner, generally unlikable, keen on observation and quick to act.

Do you use a muse when creating a character looks or personality?
If you get “stuck”, what do you do to get “unstuck”.

Generally, the “stuck” situation is when I’ve painted (or written) myself into a corner. I’m a pantser, which means I follow the evolution of the story as would a reader. This technique carries with it the risk of running into apparent dead ends and conflicts too large to resolve. When that happens, I grit my teeth and force myself to write a short outline with the hope that a way out percolates up through the miasma.
Deadlines-are you a race to meet them, are you usually ahead of schedule, or is it different with each book?

Deadlines are dates that mark the end of a 24-hr period of intense writing.

Plotter or Panster?

Pantser … spelling?

Where do you come up with your ideas?

Ha.

Oddest place you got the urge to write a scene?

Everywhere except in my Man Cave where a neat, clean desk and computer keyboard await.

Why Science Fiction?

Science Fiction is my love. From a teenager reading comics under the bed covers to paging through the latest Greg Bear quantum fantasies, from Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone to the mischief in Star Wars, this genre presents the reader with a platform to explore new worlds, new people, and new ways of thinking otherwise impossible to achieve in any other genre.

What’s next for you?

I am currently editing Henry The Last. This unpublished manuscript has already been recognized by the Royal Palm Literary Competition (2nd place, best sci-fi in 2016). It is a story of the last human, a Lakota Sioux. With only his robot companion and a ghost of his wife to guide him, he sets forth on a quest to discover what really happened to the Earth. Nothing is what it seems, not even the apocalypse which as apparently killed off all humans.

Do you genre jump?

Science fiction tends to be very friendly with fantasy elements, and this does happen from time to time in my writing. I also enjoy the challenge of writing hard sci-fi, as this tends to bring the reader along for the ride with plausible logic.

Book Review: Say You Remember by H. D’Agostino

sayyouremember

Genre: Contemporary Romance

I had it all once…I was popular, a jock, the center of attention in any group, friends that followed me everywhere. I thought I ruled the world, and in my high school I did. Girls threw themselves at me, and I used them knowing they’d never mean anything until I met her…Danielle Reed.

I never planned on liking her or even falling in love, but I did. I fell hard, and I ruined it before it could really begin.

It’s been eight years now. I never thought I’d see her again, but here she is. The thing is, she can’t stand me. She reminds me every chance she gets of what a horrible person I was, and how she hopes I rot in hell. I know it would be simpler to just move on and forget about her, but I can’t. I can’t let her go, and I don’t want to.

Danielle Reed will be mine again. I just need to make her remember.

SGMyReview

Although this is the fourth book in the series, I went into the book reading as a stand alone (having not read any others). I had to re-read the beginning over so that I could place myself where the characters where. Once I did, I settled in and managed to capture the essence of the novel.qabkzl6r82i6q

The story flowed back and forth through past and present point of view. This could be confusing, but for this book it really worked to get character backgrounds and where they were coming from. The alternate point of views never overlapped so much that you were reading the same thing, this helped to move the story along.

I really felt for Dani, especially after Mason’s betrayals (the crux of the story). I couldn’t believe she held onto so much anger for so many years. It was nice to see Mason had been through his own life’s trials and tribulations that it was able to make him into the better person he is all those years later. The person he needed to be to jjgup9efwrsukhelp Dani remember the times he wants back.

Pick this book up if you are after a second chance romance full of heartache and redemption.

Okay, Okay, Okay – Matt Hamilton HAS MY VOTE. Next President of the United States of America. Oh, wait..this isn’t real..and I’m not an American voter. Bummer! This book was all sorts of good! It follows the rise of a young man into an honoured and voteforhamilton-1prestigious role of running for President. Matt comes from political royalty, and has been groomed to do the next top job. Only, he’s not in it alone. Although his family has seen tragedy, he has a campaign crew ready to get him to the top, but will his attraction and want for the newest team member jeapordise everything?

Matt Hamilton knows he has met the person who can help him and his team on their campaign. Charlotte is hard working-like him, comes from political royalty,-like him, and might just be the best damn thing he’s ever seen, in his life (a lot like I imagine, him!). Getting involved with someone on the team is risky, and these two know it. Yet the pull they feel can’t be denied. The chemistry they exude springs off the pages and has you hurrying through to see what’s next. The heartaches and emotions that come from decisions will have you clenching your heart and hoping for more.  I can NOT wait for the next book to come out! This book does end with a bit of a cliff hanger, but it is sooooo worth the read!

This is my first Katy Evans book and I was really impressed. The way she writes the emotions and scenes captured me and had me reading this book in one sitting.
