Book Review: Light A Candle For The Beast by Echo Shea

Beastcoverd

Genre: Fantasy/Paranormal

If you’ve ever been caught in a riptide, pulled down into the water, then you know me. Or, more accurately, what I’m like when I’m angry.

Delia was beautiful, smart, and kind. He wasn’t. He said he loved her, but he didn’t know what love was. Light a Candle Blue BlurbHe was manipulative and cruel—more than a thief. A beast.

All she wanted was a rose…

These are the words on my sister’s grave. Her sadness, her obsession, forever a reminder I didn’t–couldn’t save her.

I’m not vindictive or cruel. I’m simply as the river–my memory is winding and my reach is long. I watched him steal her beauty, her essence. Watched him become a beast. He thought he’d get away with it, thought he’d go free.

I lay a rose upon my sister’s grave.

Light a candle for the beast.

MyReviewBadgeIf you’re looking for a fast fiction read that doesn’t compromise on story, then this is for you. Reading this book was actually stepping out of my realm a bit. I’ve got to say, I loved every step of the way! The darkness of the original story is explored in this re-telling, and done is such a fantastical sort of way. The prose is dark and imaginative and I was immediately immersed into the world created by the author. It was a page turner that I thoroughly enjoyed. Not is all as it seems, in the magical world of Beauty…and The Beast. A really great quick read for the paranormal fantasy readers.

New Release & Review – I’m Your Man by Joanne Rawson

imyourmanpolaroid

Genre: Contemporary Chick Lit. Romance. Adult Fiction.

Ruth Jones loves her boyfriend Justin. He is handsome, has a killer body, and the sex is awesome. He does have one major fault though. He travels so much with work that she only gets to see him once or twice a week, and that is his reasoning for always wanting to . . . stay in. At first she’s happy that he only wants to be with her, but over time, his habit of jibbing out at the last minute for every family occasion, work function, or any bloody occasion that involves socialising, really does her head in. All she wants, for goodness sake, is for people to get to know her boyfriend. Okay, so she wants them to see she has a hunk of a boyfriend, but is that so wrong?

When Ruth wakes up in a hotel room one morning suffering from a major hangover, she tries to piece the events of the previous night together. Feeling let down by yet another no-show by Justin at a work function, she headed to the bar and ordered a drink. The last thing she remembers is sitting next to an average-looking guy with a nice accent and large hands, and wondering just what those hands could do given half the chance. When the bathroom door opens and Mr. Average walks out, she realises that at the ripe old age of thirty-three, Ruth Jones has experienced her first one-night stand.

A one-night stand that is about to send her world into utter turmoil.

Written in a Bridget Jones-esque voice, I’m Your Man is delightful book of how one woman gets it so wrong. We all kind of know how this is going to go for Ruth. She’s settling for second best, but can’t see it right before her eyes.stock-photo-lonely-girl-sits-alone-at-modern-illuminated-hotel-bar-138559589

I really liked that the author used the main male character, as “Mr. Average”, not “Mr-Oh-You’re-So-Hot-That-You-Probably-Don’t-Exist-In-Real-Life”. The relationships between the friends was entertaining, with the addition of Mustang Sally to the karaoke playlist a complete win (who isn’t in their 30’s and NOT tried that song on karaoke night!?! Classic!). I certainly didn’t like Justin from the start, but I guess that is exactly what is meant to happen. I had to laugh when Mr. Average-from New York, soon becomes nicknamed, Yankee Doodle Danny (you’ll see why!).

The author has done a wonderful job at this novella length book, it’s just short enough to devour in one sitting, but not so that you feel like you’re missing out on anything.

This was a super quick read; a fun one for on the train, bus, or plane. A quickie contemporary romance to keep the reader delighted and satisfied.

Review – Holding Out For A Hero by Stacey Joy Netzel

hofahpolaroidGenre: Contemporary Romance.

Kelsie Newman meets the man of her dreams at the beginning of a really, really bad day, so excuse her for not recognizing him. Good thing she’s a smart girl and a quick learner. When he rescues her from her Good Samaritan act gone bad later that day, she doesn’t make the same mistake twice.

I think we can all say we’ve been in Kelsie’s shoes, and had ‘one of those days’ when NOTHING goes right (in fact, I’m pretty sure I had one, yesterday!). This is a super short story, and a great read for in between longer reads. I enjoyed the heroine of the story ‘holding out for a hero’, and subsequently realising, we can all be heroes in our own ways, every day. Holding out for a he

Review – Eraser by Megan Keith

erasercoverupload

Genres: Adult Fiction. Romance. Erotica. BDSM. Short Stories.

A man with no name.
Mysterious.
Dangerous.
Brooding.
Sexy.

Once a week he frequents the bar where Mackenzie works. He orders the same drink, scotch on the rocks, and he sits back on the same lounge chair, quietly watching… waiting…

He has money – that much is obvious. He wears his tailored suits well. He smells divine, of expensive cologne, and orders his scotch from the top shelf.

He drinks alone, but he never leaves that way. With a snap of his fingers, a flick of his eyes, a glimmer of a smile, he gets the attention of the most attractive women in the bar.

This time his focus is on Mackenzie. Instead of feeling nervous Mackenzie is enthralled, intrigued… and aroused.
WARNING: This novella contains explicit sex scenes (including BDSM) and is for mature 18+ readers only. PLEASE NOTE: This was originally written as a stand alone short story but after numerous requests for more, it has recently been turned into a series. Book two, Eraser Blue, and book three, Eraser Lilac, are both now available.
Looking for a quickie?! I found one! This is a good, mysterious, one hour read. It’s nice that through out this novella there is an air of mystery, and, an air of familiarity between these two. She’s a waitress in a classy bar, he’s the mystery man that always comes in regularly, and watches, waiting for the right time to take her. I was expecting a big reveal at the end, but no spoilers, I like that she doesn’t know his name, or at least it’s never revealed. This has been turned into a series, but I’m quite content to have just read this.

Give this a go if you’re after a quickie. It does contain mild BDSM, nothing off the colour charts. At the time of this review, this novella was a freebie on Amazon. It was very well edited and a smooth read.

I’d recommend reading it and seeing if you like the authors style, as she has many more titles available, and I think she’ll be one to watch.
