Not everything is as it seems. But the one thing that remains is her fate, as it hangs in the balance.

Does Riley’s fate lie with Nathan or Ace?

91c22-7b92e-210f2-add-to-goodreads-button3SGMyReviewThis is a truly new adult paranormal story. It follows a young witch who is coming into her powers and discovering what that means in her life. The prologue really sets up the story of what will happen, and how Riley will deal with all the power she possesses.Whilst I felt that at times there was a lot more that the story could have been expanded on, maybe fleshed out and explained a bit, I still enjoyed reading it. I wanted a little more between Ace and Riley, but in the end I felt this wasn’t a love triangle book. It’s a book about a young girl finding her love, and through confusion, betrayal, and magical intervention, fights for what is right and what she wants. The Butterfly Effect (as in, the actual butterfly tattoo Riley possesses, is really cool!) If you like reading in the new adult paranormal fantasy genre, I can recommend this book. It’s a great one for mature young adult readers as well (due to some mature sexual content, I would recommend readers over 16).

Blog Tour & Book Review: Finding Flynn by Alexandria Bishop

FINDING FLYNN

SGMyReview

Finding Flynn is a story about Ashtyn & Flynn. These two young adults (Ashtyn just turned 18, and Flynn is 21) meet when Ashtyn has a fight with her mum, and ends up in a bar where Flynn is playing music. The story revolves around them getting to know each other over the summer time. Ashtyn has been lied to in the past and refuses to allow anyone else in her life to lie to her. The story comes to a head when she discovers Flynn has lied to her, and has been keeping secrets. Flynn is a part of a band, and the secondary characters are slowly revealed to the reader in a way that will set them up for future reads.

Throughout the book, the author creates chapters from alternate points of view, allowing the story to flow and create tension and drama from both main characters. They act in a natural young adult way, although I feel that Ashtyn shows great maturity for an eighteen year old (this isn’t a bad thing!) Although the book is called Finding Flynn, I really think this book is all about Finding Ashtyn AND Finding Flynn. The ending is a little abrupt, but I know that the story will flow on as a part of a series, so it doesn’t seem like I’ve been cheated out of an ending.

I enjoyed reading this NA book, and recommend it to anyone after a mature young adult/new adult summer read.

Congratulations to Alexandria Bishop on her debut novel. Looking forward to more from the Marlowe series.

Ashtyn

We’re strolling through a nearby empty park. Leaves are dancing in the light breeze, and a creek is babbling gently nearby. It’s quiet and peaceful but it isn’t doing anything to help calm my nerves. Although we came out here to talk, we haven’t said a word. I open my mouth and immediately close it. My mouth is dry like I just spent all day rocking out at Warped Tour, leaving my tongue like a sheet of sandpaper. I lick my lips hoping to produce some saliva and ask, “Are there any drinking fountains nearby?” Flynn gets a shit-eating grin and points to a giant statue with fountains on all sides. “Over there.” I take a giant gulp that I immediately spit right back out. Unfortunately, Flynn is standing within shooting range and gets a mouthful of the nasty liquid, which tastes like coppery rotten eggs. I’m not sure which one of us is more shocked but I can’t hold in the laughter. The pain in my side is almost unbearable. I almost don’t hear Flynn say, “You think that’s funny, do you?” Not understanding his tone, I look up to a blazing green fire. I don’t know whether to be scared or seriously turned on. I turn to run but he grabs me and flips me around. My body shakes with fear and desire as Flynn rubs his hands up and down my arms. I don’t speak, too terrified of what I would say but even more terrified of ruining whatever is happening. I nervously gnaw on my bottom lip and he zones right in on it and licks his own. Leaning forward, I run my hands through his silky hair. He lightly presses his lips to mine, stopping everything around us. Not satisfied with the featherlight kiss, I greedily run my tongue along his bottom lip and use my teeth to gently tug on his lip ring. A guttural groan escapes him, causing my entire body to tingle, right down to my toes. Suddenly I understand what all those girls are feeling in the romance novels I devour. This single kiss will ruin all future kisses for me. Letting go of his piercing, I push my tongue against his mouth and he grants me access. The moment our tongues tangle, the air around us thickens and everything shifts. Flynn’s hands trail my body. Everywhere he touches, my body is on fire. My back hits cold stone, and I wrap my leg around his waist. Flynn lifts me and both legs hook around him. His hardness hits my sweet spot and I let out a husky moan, causing him to rock against me. My eyes roll back into my head and I throw it back, unable to control myself any longer.

Strap in, get ready to start your engines and see where it all began.

Will he decide to fight for love or follow his dreams?

Congratulations to Michelle on the Cover Reveal! I’ve had the pleasure of reading this novella, so without further ado….

SGMyReviewI have previously read Michelle’s early work, Through The Fire, a paranormal fantasy revolving around lots of magic and action. Knowing how much I enjoyed her style of writing, and seeing her dive into the Contemporary Romance world, I was highly anticipating the release of this book! I knew it would have to be different, because she was playing with different worlds now. The contemporary world is a lot less forgiving than the paranormal fantasy worlds an author can create.

Well, I don’t know how Michelle Irwin has done it, but she has managed to get in the head of a teenage boy and capture his essence with ease! This book is a fantastic base to what is to come in this series. The story revolves around Declan and Alyssa. These kids are lifelong best friends who were always there for each other. That was until they decided to take it to the next level. Declan has wanted to be a V8 race car driver all his life. Unfortunately for him, his best friend, and now girlfriend, finds it boring. Conflict ensues, but not in a way you would think. It’s a subtle conflict that is executed in the perfect teen way. There isn’t any technical jargon that would confuse you, so if you’re not familiar with racing, it’s okay, you’ll still get it. Irwin has captured first loves, first times, first losses, and building a future, in such a fantastic way. So much so that I can’t wait to grab the next book to see where things go.

This is a must read before you pick up the first book in the series.

As a side note: I loved the fact that it was based in Australia. It has me laughing at some of the terms used, the glossary at the front of the book will get you sorted in case you have any questions of the strange words she uses!

This one doesn’t come out until the end of August, so be sure to pre-order for a bargain price of .99c.

Author Bio:

Michelle Irwin has been many things in her life: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; a young girl willing to fight for the love of a vampire; and a time-travelling madman in a box. She achieved all of these feats and many more through her voracious reading habit. Eventually, so much reading had to have an effect and the cast of characters inside her mind took over and spilled out onto the page.

Michelle lives in sunny Queensland in the land down under with her surprisingly patient husband and ever-intriguing daughter, carving out precious moments of writing and reading time around her accounts-based day job. A lover of love and overcoming the odds, she primarily writes paranormal and fantasy romance.

Book Review: Outside the Ropes by Ashley Claudy

OTRcover60956-smallGenre: New Adult. Romance. Suspense. Action.

Regan Sommers spent her life fighting. Fighting foster parents, kids in the group home, and classmates. But the night she has to fight for her life changes everything.
Now, she’s fighting for money in the ring, and from the first punch she’s addicted. Every addiction has a price though, and this one is the gym’s star boxer, Gage Lawson. He may come in an enticing tattooed package, but his demands are more than she can handle.
OTR
The responding officer from that night, Anthony Fields, comes with no demands. He want’s whatever she’s willing to give, and Regan can handle that. She can definitely handle him.
But no help comes string free, and Regan’s not the only one with a hard past and scars to cover. The life she was trying to escape is nothing compared to the danger she’s in the middle of now, and she can’t fight her way out.

MyReviewBadge

The author does a great job weaving multiple story lines through out this book, suspense and action included. There were a few angles that I wished had been resolved by the end, or had a little more depth put into them, but for the majority of the book I wasn’t worrying about that.

Regan’s character was likable, a strong female, who also has enough vulnerability that the reader can relate to her. In some of the ways she acted she showed she wasn’t the complete tough girl, which added depth to her character. The way shIMG_20150217_142044e craves attention didn’t make her less likable, in fact it shows that being damaged allows her to get through life the way she has.

At first I was confused by Gage, but at the same time intrigued and sucked into his demeanour and appeal. Throughout the story he remains a mystery, but at the same time you also feel like whatever his motivation is, it’s for the best. Who doesn’t love a hot boxer who knows goes all protective, but not in an aggressive and possessive way!?OTR4

I was hoping some of the loose ends would be tied together, but I compliment the author in giving the reader an experience that will have them hanging for the next installment. In the end, I really couldn’t put the book down and now I really can’t wait for the next book! *warning, there is a bit of a cliff hanger…..

Book Review: Trade Me by Courtney Milan

Genre: New Adult

Tina Chen just wants a degree and a job, so her parents never have to worry about making rent againtumblr_nicw120eAr1qmb3rso1_1280. She has no time for Blake Reynolds, the sexy billionaire who stands to inherit Cyclone Systems. But when he makes an offhand comment about what it means to be poor, she loses her cool and tells him he couldn’t last a month living her life.

To her shock, Blake offers her a trade: She’ll get his income, his house, his car. In exchange, he’ll work her hours and send money home to her family. No expectations; no future obligations.

But before long, they’re trading not just lives, but secrets, kisses, and heated nights together. No expectations might break Tina’s heart…but Blake’s secrets could ruin her life.

tumblr_nicvz5ybnI1qmb3rso1_1280I’m not going to lie, I grabbed this book because of the cover! Don’t judge me (or do, it’s okay!)!!!!!!!! I certainly haven’t read many books, if any, that had an Asian immigrant as a main character and it was something that had piqued my interest in the book. Not to mention a hottie billionaire that was off-limits. The interesting thing about this book is Blake, who struggles with being in the spotlight and having the pressure of a family company on his shoulders. The author does a good job of revealing this throughout the book, and the chemistry between Blake and Tina is thrown together with a few surprises that I wasn’t expecting. I liked the subtlety of the character traits that made it a bit more than a boy meets girl and girl swoons and falls all over the guy type of book. Tina’s mum had me laughing out loud with inappropriate mum-isms and her honesty and bluntness (no daughter wants her mum talking about wrapping it and condoms at the dinner table, right!?!!!!). The ending turned a little bizarre for me as I felt Tina’s character digressed into a strange alternate world, but in the end it was wrapped up in a sense that an ongoing series is. Read this New Adult romance if you are after a clever written story of love between opposites. Also, this author has written multiple historical romances, so if that’s your thing, be sure to check them out at her website.

callsignkarma

I absolutely loved this book. It kept me awake all night reading it. I laughed, I gulped, I sobbed, I sighed. An emotional roller coaster of a read. I was a bit sad and slightly annoyed that the main character was so bent on beating herself up, but in the end I really liked how the author managed to play it all out. Tinklee, a female fighter pilot has to be one tough chick, in the middle of a boys world, I found the characters emotions of strengths and weaknesses came through csk1well on the page. The two main male characters, Locke and Ash, were worthy of a starring role, and were believable hotties to drool over.  It also helps that one of my all-time favourite movies is Top Gun, and it was just on tele the other night! Something about a uniform, a fighter pilot, and managing to handle all that expensive equipment…. *proceeds to fan self* Recommend this book as a great summer (or winter, autumn, spring) read. This book had it all – tension, laughs, and love. Out on January 5th be sure to grab this pre-order now! It’s worth it!

New Release & Review – Cutting Out by Meredith Shayne

cutting-outpolaroid Genre: M/M Contemporary Romance. Adult Fiction.

A twenty-year veteran of the shearing shed, Aussie Shane Cooper loves his job, and the home he’s made for himself in New Zealand. If he’s a little lonely, he’s got good mates to keep his spirits up. When a hot, cocky young shearer named Lachlan Moore catches his eye at a competition, he’s content to look but not touch, knowing the young man is out of his league.

Lachie wouldn’t mind a piece of Shane, but the gorgeous gun shearer from Australia is soon forgotten when the Christchurch earthquake hits, and tragedy strikes Lachie’s family. Lachie deals with it the best he can, cutting himself off from all he knows. A year later and he’s back in the shearing shed, out of practice and lacking confidence. That Shane’s there to watch him flounder doesn’t help his nerves.

As Lachlan struggles to re-acclimatise, Shane can’t resist giving him a hand to get back on his feet. As they move from friends to something more, Shane finds himself wanting to know everything he can about Lachie. But Lachie’s got secrets he desperately wants to keep, and when things come to a head, those secrets might just mean the end of them before they’ve truly begun.

This novel, about sheep shearers in picturesque New Zealand, was an entertaining read. The author used a wonderful voice to portray both main characters, and the emotion came through on the pages. The story line weaves in the world of shearing in a way that makes you feel like you can smell, and hear the hustle and bustle of the shearing shed. I really enjoyed the camaraderie around the gangs that work together, and the portrayal of bonds formed in the roughest of conditions. The integration of slang was enjoyable, and make me chuckle a few times.     The main characters, Shane and Lachie were wonderfully written, and the author did a really great job of making me feel every emotion available. At times I had to take a moment to relish the fact that I was frowning, or smiling, or having my heart crushed at the devastation that the Christchurch earthquakes had on families. In my humble opinion, when an author can make a reader feel that, they really have a gift. Read this book if you’re after a love story between characters that push and pull, and create a slow burn. Cutting Out is a wonderfully portrayed romance novel, with blokes and beer, instead of wine and flowers.

Review – Always by Amanda Weaver

alwaysamandaweavercoverGenre: Adult Romance. Contemporary Romance. New Adult. Angst.

From the moment they meet, their connection is perfect in every way but one.

It’s New Year’s Eve, 2007, and Justine James is fronting her dead-end band for a less-than-adoring crowd. But there’s one person there who sees what she could be—one person who changes everything for her.

Dillon Pierce clawed his way up from the LA streets with no one to count on but his best friend, Ash. Their years of struggle finally pay off when their band, Outlaw Rovers, gets signed and their single takes off. With Ash as the magnetic lead singer and Dillon as the band’s musical soul, they’re destined for greatness, provided Dillon can keep Ash from self-destructing first.

Dillon might not be fronting Outlaw Rovers, but he’s always been the only one Justine sees. She’s followed his career from afar and when he shows up at her crummy New Year’s Eve gig, nothing will stop her from meeting him. They forge an intense connection, rapidly moving from friends to musical soul mates. Justine wants much more, but she’s not willing to climb over groupies and industry bottom-feeders to make it happen. Dillon becomes a fixture in her life, but she has to figure out how to keep him out of her heart.

Outlaw Rovers begins to implode as Justine’s star is on the rise. The years that follow bring equal parts fame and ruin. For Justine, a new love supplants her old heartbreak, and Dillon has to reboot his life after losing nearly everything that matters. Despite the odds, Dillon and Justine remain devoted friends and musical collaborators. After all the missed chances, wrong turns and painful detours, can they finally find the happiness together that seemed destined from the start?

I wasn’t sure I was going to love this book. I was after a bit of a rock-star read, as I’ve been on them lately, and I was told this had a bit angst in it. I didn’t have to worry, in the end it worked out this one was going to prove to surpass my expectations, and rocket onto my favourites list. Not your typical groupie meets rock-star, they fall in love, can’t deal with being a rockstar….nope, not this one. This is a great read of two people who meet by chance, and form a connection of friendship and mutual interest. The connection and unresolved attraction stays, all the way until the end. I love the way the musical connections are portrayed between Justine and Dillon. The drama, and the progression of the story, as the heroine carves her own path in the music world, all the while, watching the drama of a band and a guy she’s idolised fall apart, makes this a book you’ll want to finish reading in one sitting.

Read this if you’re after a bit of drama, maybe a few tissues, but an all over excellent book about rock stars, and dreams of climbing to the top.
