This book was highly erotic and not for the faint of heart when it comes to explicit sex scenes. However, I think you’ll find that Veronica is a smart woman who does not do things without thorough thought. A symptom of the time, perhaps. This book is set in Venice, Italy in the 16th century. Consequences of life of that time leads to heartbreak and losses, and the sacrifices of the life of a courtesan. Reading this book I found that it was actually less about the ‘sex’ and ‘skills’ of a courtesan, and more about a woman who was trying to make it in a world where women were objects and to survive, you had to rise above and be the object desired. The quote in the book about equality added a nice touch to causes that are still being fought in the 21st century, as they were in the 16th!Read this if you’re after a historical, erotic novel of love, losses, and sacrifice.
