Genre: Contemporary Romance
I had it all once…I was popular, a jock, the center of attention in any group, friends that followed me everywhere. I thought I ruled the world, and in my high school I did. Girls threw themselves at me, and I used them knowing they’d never mean anything until I met her…Danielle Reed.
I never planned on liking her or even falling in love, but I did. I fell hard, and I ruined it before it could really begin.
It’s been eight years now. I never thought I’d see her again, but here she is. The thing is, she can’t stand me. She reminds me every chance she gets of what a horrible person I was, and how she hopes I rot in hell. I know it would be simpler to just move on and forget about her, but I can’t. I can’t let her go, and I don’t want to.
Danielle Reed will be mine again. I just need to make her remember.
Although this is the fourth book in the series, I went into the book reading as a stand alone (having not read any others). I had to re-read the beginning over so that I could place myself where the characters where. Once I did, I settled in and managed to capture the essence of the novel.
The story flowed back and forth through past and present point of view. This could be confusing, but for this book it really worked to get character backgrounds and where they were coming from. The alternate point of views never overlapped so much that you were reading the same thing, this helped to move the story along.
I really felt for Dani, especially after Mason’s betrayals (the crux of the story). I couldn’t believe she held onto so much anger for so many years. It was nice to see Mason had been through his own life’s trials and tribulations that it was able to make him into the better person he is all those years later. The person he needed to be to help Dani remember the times he wants back.
Pick this book up if you are after a second chance romance full of heartache and redemption.
