Book Review: Tattoo Thief by Heidi Joy Tretheway

Genre: Contemporary Romance
A rock star on the run meets his match in the stranger who wants to bring him home.
Beryl doesn’t know why Gavin Slater trashed his penthouse, abandoned his dog and fled the country. But as his house sitter, she must pick up the pieces for the front man of the white-hot rock band Tattoo Thief.
When Beryl confronts the reckless rock star, she wants to know more than just what to do with his mess. Why is he running? What’s he searching for? And is he responsible for the death of his muse? Beryl must find her footing in Gavin’s crazy world to discover her own direction and what can bring him back.
TATTOO THIEF is a full-length, standalone new adult contemporary romance (no cliffhanger). It contains steamy scenes and strong language intended for mature readers.
Beryl, the main character is trudging along in life. She’s graduated from college, but is stuck doing something she doesn’t love. Instead of journalism, she’s managing a coffee shop. A chance meeting with an old family friend has her packing everything up from leafy Oregon, and trying to make it in the concrete jungle of New York.
Beryl takes on a housesitting job and discovers she’s looking after the house of one of the biggest rock stars in the
world, Gavin of Tattoo Thief. She starts communicating with him via email about the state of his house and what needs to be done before he gets home from his “self-imposed sabbatical”. Beryl settles into New York life and through her daily business develops a ‘relationship’ with Gavin.
I really enjoyed the writing of this book and the flow of the words had me reading this in a day. It kept me interested and wanting to know what happens. If you’re looking for a hot tattooed rock star book, then this probably isn’t for you. If you’re looking for a book about a girl who moves to the big city and rediscovers herself, and learns a valuable life lesson along the way then this is definitely the book for you.
One of my favourite lines out of the book was “Be Safe, but have an Adventure” ….
A between stars read for me – 3 ½ – I’m hanging for Gavin’s POV!

It is a part of a series and I think I’ll be picking up the rest so I can see where it all goes!

Sunday Spotlight: Authors on Show – Lacey Roberts
About the Author:
My real name is Susan Horsnell and I write sweet Western Romance under this name. Lacey Roberts is the pen name I chose when I began writing Erotic Romance. My stories are entirely fictional. I try to give the reader fantasy, an escape from real life, a Cinderella type story.
I grew up in Sydney but now live in sunny Queensland where I spend my days walking my dogs, reading, writing and renovating our home. Married for almost 41 years, my husband and I also enjoy a great deal of travel.
I run a small advertising site called Easychair Bookshop
As an Indie author I realised we were often buried beneath the big authors on the larger sites. Last August I decided to start a free advertising site with the aim of making it easier for readers to find new authors. The support has been phenomenal, the site is growing rapidly and the readership is now around 3,000 per day who spend an average of 11 mins at the site. Authors tell me they are selling in countries that hadn’t sold in before EC and readers berate me as they say they are easily able to find and purchase books from genres they wouldn’t have previously bothered with, they are spending more money! All advertising at the site is completely free. I have a home feature where I spotlight an author and all their books every Friday and Book of the Week changes every Tuesday. Authors submit their interest for these but due to an overwhelming response, I have had to close the submissions temporarily. Books, however can be listed at any time. There are numerous genre tabs and any buy link of the authors choosing is added. Note: Books are not purchased from this site, readers are taken to the purchase site via a Buy Now button. At the moment I also have a competition running. It is not reader vote but numerous judges will judge the works on their merits. I have beautiful, engraved medallions for the winners with a certificate for first to fifth and a ‘stamp’ which can be attached to their covers.
My plans for the immediate future include travel to the US to meet some of my author friends.
I hope you enjoy my latest release, Deadly Secrets which is set in Canberra, Australia – the Nation’s Capital. We have just returned to Qld after being in Canberra for 2 years. This story, like everything I write, is purely fictional but there are numerous real places and facts covered. I could not have made it as realistic without the advice of the A.C.T. Police Media Centre and the Forensic Medical Centre at Sydney University. I am grateful to both.

Lexie thinks four years away from her arrogant cowboy will have dampened her crush. How wrong she is.
Sparks fly as they disagree over his sister. When he finds her in tears down by the river, neither can fight their attraction any longer and passion takes over.
Will this be the beginning of an intense love affair or will Lexie give up and walk away? Does a near tragedy finally open Blake’s eyes?
How would you describe the writing to publishing process? Any fun analogies?
The writing to publishing journey is a fun one for me. Once the writing is done and edited, I publish to Amazon for ebooks and Createspace for paperbacks. In the beginning it was an ‘interesting’ experience. Incorrect formats that were chewed up and spat back at me, covers that were not the “exact” size, bleed areas which were compromised, I was a beginner – what the hell was a bleed area? Eventually, I discovered, if I played nicely and by the rules, my book would end up in Cyberspace and I could order a tangible, paper and ink copy which I could hold in my hands. Ah, the joy of it all. Then comes the promotion and advertising, another story for another day.
Are you a plotter or a fly by the seat of your pants type writer?
I am definitely not a plotter. My characters talk to me, they tell me their story and lead me where they want to go. Sometimes, I wish they would lead me there without so many bumps in the road.
Do you listen to music or are you a silence in the library writer?
Silence, if I have music on half of the words end up on the screen.
You’re going to a deserted island and you’re allowed 3 books to read for the rest of your life… which books and why?
Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell. I love the description, the way she brings characters to life. It is my all time favourite and no matter how many times I read it, I am spirited back in time
My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult. This book throws you for a loop and every time I read it, I expect the outcome to be different.
Any Di Morrissey Book. I would have to think about which one for a while, a hard decision to make. I love how she writes Australia into her stories. Most of the places she writes about I have been to so it is very easy to visualise.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to be with you.
Thank you so much to Lacey for joining us for another Sunday Spotlight!
This week I went into a bookstore, because who can’t resist, right?!?! I ended up walking out with Dirty Rowdy Thing by Christina Lauren and Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover. I can’t wait to devour them! I’ve heard great things!!! Any favourite books that you have absolutely devoured lately!?
Book Review: Light A Candle For The Beast by Echo Shea
Genre: Fantasy/Paranormal
If you’ve ever been caught in a riptide, pulled down into the water, then you know me. Or, more accurately, what I’m like when I’m angry.
Delia was beautiful, smart, and kind. He wasn’t. He said he loved her, but he didn’t know what love was.
He was manipulative and cruel—more than a thief. A beast.
All she wanted was a rose…
These are the words on my sister’s grave. Her sadness, her obsession, forever a reminder I didn’t–couldn’t save her.
I’m not vindictive or cruel. I’m simply as the river–my memory is winding and my reach is long. I watched him steal her beauty, her essence. Watched him become a beast. He thought he’d get away with it, thought he’d go free.
I lay a rose upon my sister’s grave.
Light a candle for the beast.
If you’re looking for a fast fiction read that doesn’t compromise on story, then this is for you. Reading this book was actually stepping out of my realm a bit. I’ve got to say, I loved every step of the way! The darkness of the original story is explored in this re-telling, and done is such a fantastical sort of way. The prose is dark and imaginative and I was immediately immersed into the world created by the author. It was a page turner that I thoroughly enjoyed. Not is all as it seems, in the magical world of Beauty…and The Beast. A really great quick read for the paranormal fantasy readers.
About the Author:
Echo Shea is an Urban Fantasy writer. Known for fast-paced and sometimes chilling prose, she hunkers down at her desk with characters that not only enchant, but excite her. There’s something so freeing about writing beyond what seems possible.
Who says there’s not something more hiding in these Maryland woods?

Thank you to the author for generously providing a copy of the book for an honest review.

Patricia’s Books:
Teen Sex: By the Book: For teenagers and parents of teens
This book answers your questions about teenage sexuality and relationships. Renowned sex therapist and educator, Dr Patricia Weerakoon, explores the topics of sexual desire and arousal, falling in love, and dating—things like, ‘How far is too far?’ You’ll also cover topics like cybersex, pornography and homosexuality, and the effects these can have on our sex lives. The discussion is frank and, in parts, explicit.
Some may find it a little uncomfortable, but it’s stuff that will inform and challenge you. Ultimately, it calls you to consider who you are and what you stand for. Discover how living God’s countercultural lifestyle leads to healthy, pleasurable sex and intimate, satisfying relationships that last a lifetime.
Growing up: By the Book: For Children and preteens from 9-14 years and their parents
Puberty—it’s an exciting time. You’re not a child, but you’re not an adult either. Your body is changing: breasts, curves and periods; deepening voices, broadening shoulders and wet dreams. And hair in some quite strange places! And, you don’t feel like a child. Well, sometimes you still want to cuddle Mum but mostly you want to do things your own way and explore your own identi
ty. And then there’s all this talk about sex!
So, how do you manage all these changes? How do you decide ‘your way’? Who (or where) do you go to for advice?
Renowned sex therapist and educator Patricia Weerakoon answers the most common questions kids aged 10−14 have about puberty, sex and relationships. She’ll get you thinking about how you see your body, what you feed your brain, and who you base your identity on.
But growing up is more than just facts; it’s about becoming the best person you can be. You’ll see how living your life the way God intended is best for you, your friends and your family.
The Best Sex for Life: For couples of all ages from dating to the nursing home.
We live in a world of rampant individualism and self-fulfilment. We’re entitled to sexual satisfaction; our culture vigorously affirms it. The result is dissatisfaction—sex is not as frequent, exciting or orgasmic as it should be and it’s usually our spouse’s fault.
Whether you’ve accepted that ‘this is as good as it gets’, struggle in ignorance, or turn to other sources for fulfilment, know that this is not how God intended sex to be! The best way to have a happy, fulfilled sex life is to understand God’s purpose for sexuality and to be willing to live under biblical direction for our relationships in marriage and beyond.
No matter whether you are engaged, a newlywed or have been married for many years, this new book by Patricia Weerakoon is for you. We will discuss the day-to-day activities of a good sex life plus hot topics like premarital sex, infidelity, pornography, sex toys, sexual dysfunctions and variant sexual practices. Discover how to have the best sex for life, no matter what stage of life you are at.
All Vicki wanted to do was visit her homeland, Sri Lanka, to attend her sister’s wedding, and find out more about an orphanage she’d heard good things about. Instead, she finds herself forced into an illicit liaison with Alfie, her sister’s wealthy, arrogant and charming fiancé; finds herself drawn to Patrick, the tormented manager of the orphanage; and then discovers the orphanage to be a front for a child sex tourism racket. Vicki is determined to save her sister’s marriage, and the orphanage children – and to do it she’s willing to put her career, even her life, on the line.
Coming Soon: (May 2015)
Empires Children
A story set in the tea plantations of Sri Lanka in the dying years of the British colonial ‘raj’. These are the children of the empire: Shiro, the feisty and independent daughter of the native tea-maker cares nothing for the class distinctions, while her best friend Sunderi, born into the squalor of life as an indentured Indian labourer is only too aware of the hopelessness of her situation. Anthony Ashton, who with his brother William is heir to one of the world’s largest tea companies, and has been indoctrinated by his father James Ashton to scorn Sri-Lankan natives and see the Indian coolie labour as little more than slaves to be used for personal gratification and the increase of company profits. And Jega, the half breed son of James.
- How would you describe the writing to publishing process? Any fun analogies?
I love cooking. Writing is a little like a good curry. You need the right ingredients. Authentic, fresh, spicy. Then the mix of these and the time you spend stirring and heating all are influenced by who you plan to feed. If the flavours are just right you get the result you want: A dish that informs and edifies, thrills and whets the appetite or an aphrodisiac that makes the consumer beg for more.
- Are you a plotter or a fly by the seat of your pants type writer?
I am a plotter, a planner a pedantically practical person.
- Do you listen to music or are you a silence in the library writer?
I am a ‘whatever takes my mood at the moment’ type writer.
- You’re going to a deserted island and you’re allowed 3 books to read for the rest of your life… which books and why?
The Bible: My life is based on it
A music hymn book: I love to sing and can learn all the hymns.
A blank note book (and pencils) to record my thoughts.
Thank you to Dr. Patricia Weerakoon for spending some time on the blog today. I’m an equal opportunity blogger and happy to bring all different ideas, genres, and views for everyone to make up their own mind.
Next week I’ll have some new reviews up and don’t forget Teaser Tuesday! I keep forgetting the US is a day behind so after I’d posted last weeks we ended up with a load more teasers! I’ll add them to this weeks post.
What are you reading right now? I’d love to know!!
Book Review: Reluctantly Charmed by Ellie O’Neill
Burning with curiosity, Kate agrees and opens the first letter – and finds that it’s a passionate plea to reconnect with the long-forgotten fairies of Irish folklore. Instantly, Kate’s life is turned upside down. Her romantic life takes a surprising turn and she is catapulted into the public eye. As events become stranger and stranger – and she discovers things about herself she’s never known before – Kate must decide whether she can fulfil the final, devastating step of the request . . . or whether she can face the consequences if she doesn’t.
Reluctantly Charmed is about what happens when life in the fast lane collides with the legacy of family, love and its possibilities… and a little bit of magic.
The front cover of Reluctantly Charmed says “Witty, enchanting and utterly addictive” .. I’m going to have to agree. This was such a quirky, gorgeously fun read. It’s a story of a girl, and what she needs to do step out of her comfort and truly ‘trust her instincts’. Can she believe? Can she make the right choices? Ellie O’Neill writes in a fun, easy to read manner that had me
turning the page rapidly, eager to read the words on the next and the next and the next page, until I finally closed the book. There’s a lot of characters that make up the story, and at times I had to double back and re-check who was who, but it didn’t take away from the charming story. The Irish countryside, the characters of the little Irish village, it all had me sighing and wishing I could be whisked away to Ireland and the land of fae, just to see if I could find the fairy fort….. what if…
About the Author:
she had that niggling feeling she had stories to tell. Swapping the dizzy disco lights of London for her parents’ suburban Dublin house, she scribbled away knowing that there was something about Irish fairies she needed to share with the world. Then, most unexpectedly, Ellie fell madly in love. Five years later, Geelong, Australia, is home to Ellie, her Joe, and their fabulous baby. Ellie is currently working on her second book.

Cover Reveal & Pre-Release Review: Salvation by Stephanie John
Title: Salvation
Author: Stephanie John
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
Series: The Heal Me Series, Book 1
Synopsis
A chance meeting turned my world inside out.
Intelligent, sexy, and rich. With a dash of roguish charm and a cocksure smile, Nathan Blake is the ultimate fantasy. He can have any woman he wants with only a glance.
And he wants me.
My past has left me broken and humiliated, wary of men like him.
I cut myself off from the pain, moving thousands of miles away to escape every reminder, determined to start anew.
I’ve been second best before. It isn’t happening again.
One kiss and I’m caught under his spell, drawn to him with every breath I take.
I can’t resist.
The passion that explodes between us becomes an intense connection
neither of us thought we’d share. Or need.
The suffering inside me reflects his – a pain I know he feels, but can’t bring himself to reveal.
I have no idea his love can heal me – that mine can heal him…
…if only I can let down my guard for him and trust.
Excerpt
Nate prowled behind me, his body heat making mine hum with anticipation as I blindly awaited his next move. He stroked a finger lazily down my bare back, scattering goosebumps across my flesh. “So creamy and soft,” he murmured. “I’ve longed to taste your skin for weeks.” His lips grazed my shoulder, working up to my ear and whispered, “But I imagine you knew that already.”
My breathing shallowed, my body swaying as Nate played this tantalising game of seduction. The straps of my dress fell down my arms, his hands leaving a trail of fire on my skin as he eased it off. His breath hitched. “No underwear?”
“No bra,” I corrected. He eased the dress over my hips and down my body, and tossed it to the side.
“Your legs are spectacular.” His breath tickled the back of my knee. Warm hands and soft lips mapped their way leisurely up my thighs until Nate regained a standing position. Taking both my hands, he wrapped them around the back of his neck and deliberately trailed fingertips down my arms, making my skin tingle.
“Feel what you do to me, Kara?” he rasped, both hands splaying above and below my navel, urging me flush against him. His erection strained against his fly, pushing against my arse.
Unable to respond coherently, I whimpered and nodded. Realising Nate was so hot for me was enlightening. I arched my back, moving both hands to his hair.
“So incredibly sexy.” His thumb skimmed the lace top of my panties, then he slipped his hand inside, moving down until his finger found my clit. My body jolted and I gasped. “I can’t wait to bury myself inside you.”

First off I’ll start by saying that I won a copy of this book. I am not sure I would have picked it up, because sometimes you can read too much of a genre (think hot, billionaire male leads) and think, I’ll give this a break…
WELL… I AM GLAD I didn’t ignore this book! If you’re looking for a Contemporary Romance then I think Stephanie John has nailed it with “Salvation”. Right from the get go, the small details of what the character was doing as they were speaking and interacting with the others, was a wonderful addition to assist the brain processing what was happening. It was really non-invasive and had me immersed into the story, immediately.
There were times I could have really throttled Kara, and her need to sabotage things, or keep things from Nate, but all was forgiven when throughout the book it’s revealed what she has kept secret, and why she did. Allowing Nate to break down those walls just makes him so much more swoon-worthy. Instead of getting lost in an arrogant, dominant, billionaire, the reader actually get a gorgeous, handsome, intense, billionaire who has secrets of his own. Secrets that make him the way he is, but all for the better. The use of minor character, Mai, Kara’s assistant and best friend, was a great way of breaking up the storyline and ensuring it wasn’t just about the two main characters.
Nate —- what can I say? A man in a suit, who can command a boardroom…SIGN ME UP! It really works that he isn’t
arrogant or aggressive. He has just the right blend of intensity and intrigue that makes him all the more attractive, and Kara a very lucky lady!
A warning…the heat level in this book is OFF the Richter scale! Be prepared to put the fan on and swoon a little. The man knows HOW to please his woman, and boy…that comes across on the page! Luckily for the reader, with so much heat between the pages, Stephanie John makes it interesting and fresh, and ensures that it’s not cliché and repetitive. You may need to start the cold shower, because reading about Kara and Nate and their chemistry is sure to make you need a little breather!
Johns has written in an easy-to-read manner that draws you into the story and will have you hanging out until the end. Speaking of the end… jawdrop … that was it!?!??!! I only JUST read that it’s a part of a series, and boy am I glad I did, otherwise I’d have to seek out Ms. Johns and ask some very serious questions! This looks like it will be a really great series and I commend Johns on her upcoming release.
About the Author
Most days, you’ll find Stephanie John on a yacht, wearing a very skimpy bikini, drinking champagne, eating chocolate and never gaining weight.
When she isn’t asleep and dreaming, in real life you’re more likely to find her at the school gates, wearing whatever she dragged on that morning, drinking copious amounts of coffee. She still eats chocolate, though — everyone has their vices, right?
Somehow, amidst the chaos of full-time mummy duties, she manages to write. Contemporary romance has always been her favourite genre to read for as long as she can remember (age-appropriate, of course).
Never in a million years did it occur to her to write one of her own. Now, she couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

1. How would you describe the writing to publishing process? Any fun analogies?
My writing to publishing process is like being in a relationship. Sometimes you love the book, sometimes you want to stab it in the heart for mistreating you, but at the end of the day you stick together and see it through because that’s just what you do. For many authors, they can knock out a book in about a month. I, unfortunately, am not one of those people. Urban fantasy takes a little more research and world building in order to make it good. At the minimum, writing a book will take me six months, and another six months of editing, editing, editing and then proofreading. Maybe then it’ll be ready for some beta readers. I don’t rush the process. I’m putting my name to the story. I want to be known for having great, well-thought out stories, not just hastily thrown together ones. The day you hit the publish button is a good day though because you know you’ve done all you can.
2. Are you a plotter or a fly by the seat of your pants type writer?
I’m definitely a plotter. The first book I ever published was written without a plan and it took me three and a half years because I kept changing things to make it better. If I’d taken the time to plot, it wouldn’t have taken so long. I’m also meticulous when it comes to characters and the geography of my books. I have notebooks filled with character descriptions and maps to make sure I don’t have any plot holes.
3. Do you listen to music or are you a silence in the library writer?
I listen to music, but what I listen to changes with the tone of the scene. For example, if I’m writing a love/sex scene, the music I like is more ballads and love songs. If I’m writing about a murder scene or a fight (definitely more my style) then I listen to something heavier, or something with a faster beat and usually with a lot of swearing.
4. You’re going to a deserted island and you’re allowed 3 books to read for the rest of your life… which books and why?
I’d probably take Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” because it’s a classic. I’d also take any two randomly chosen books by J.R.Ward. That woman can do no wrong.
